Toyosato Elementary School

The former Toyosato Elementary School, an architecturally significant Western-style building, is open to visitors as a fascinating and evocative museum near the historic Nakasendō road. The funds for the school building were donated entirely by Furukawa Tetsujirō, the managing director of Marubeni, an Ōmi merchant firm. It was built in 1937. At that time, it was renowned as a veritable palace of Asian education.
